Four Healthy Ice Lolly & Ice Cream Recipes you can make at home for kids

As the days get warmer, our little people often crave the cool refreshment of ice cream and ice lollies.

Whilst we’re all for the occasional indulgent treat, we like to keep a stash of healthier homemade options to hand also. Not only can homemade lollies be significantly cheaper than shop-bought ones, but you can be confident that you are giving your little people something that is nutritious and hydrating also.

All our teas can be made into simple iced tea lollies but we have enjoyed creating some more exciting recipes too!

Jolly Croc Banana Nice Cream Lollies

Jolly Croc Banana Ice Lollies

Packed with the goodness of bananas and the extra fruity flavours of our Jolly Croc tea, these lollies are perfect for an after-school pick-me-up.

Bananas are a great source of potassium, a key electrolyte that helps our bodies to regulate heart function & fluid balance and the addition of the tea infusion adds extra hydration and more depth of flavour.

Happy Toucan Coconut Ice

Happy Toucan coconut ice cream for kids

Healthy & indulgent all rolled into one... plus dairy free too! This recipe definitely works best with the assistance of an ice cream machine but you can make it without also. The dates are a lovely addition – bringing a deeper toffee flavour to the coconut ice. This ice cream is the perfect guilt-free pudding.

Serves 3-4

What you’ll need:

4 x Happy Toucan tea bags
1 x Can of coconut milk
½ tsp Vanilla Essence
1 tablespoon raw honey OR 2 dates (soaked in warm water for 5 mins and then drained)
Measuring jug
Blender
2 Ice cube trays or ice cream maker

Method:

  • Pop 4 Happy Toucan tea bags into a measuring jug and brew for at least 10 minutes in 50ml freshly boiled water… the idea here is to make a really strong concentrate
  • Remove tea bags and pour the concentrate into a blender along with the coconut milk, vanilla essence and honey
  • Blend until super smooth
  • (At this point, if you have an ice cream maker you can pour the mixture in and let the maker do its job!)
  • Otherwise, pour the mixture into 2 ice cube trays and leave to set in freezer for a few hours before blending it ready to eat
  • If you want a firmer ice cream, pop the blended mixture back in the freezer for another hour or so
  • Best enjoyed on the day but can be kept in the freezer for up to one week.
